3 ways to avoid a repeat caesarean birth

Whilst you may be told differently and be given a ‘high risk’ label for a pregnancy that came after a previous caesarean birth, this label can highly misleading.

Your care giver’s biggest worry when supporting a VBAC is the risk of scar rupture. This is NOT common… and when we say ‘not common’, there’s over 99% chance that it won’t happen.

Doesn't seem quite so high risk now does it?!

So here are some simple steps to help you achieve your vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC):

  1. UNDERSTAND YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Having an independent birth debrief can help you understand why and how your birth unfolded the way it did.

This is essential for you to be able to process your emotions and eventually move forward

  2. WORK ON ANY UNRESOLVED TRAUMA AND EMOTIONAL ROAD BLOCKS

You cannot build a positive mindset for birth on wobble foundations.

Finding help will allow the brain to have space for positive (or at the very least, neutral) feelings and thoughts about birth. This can help you immensely.

  3. ASSEMBLE YOUR A-TEAM:

Who’s supporting you in pregnancy, birth and beyond?

Are they good advocates, have they got your back and can they help you understand your rights, risks and options?

Other things to consider are:

  • Having midwifery led care

  • Not being induced

  • Avoiding continuous fetal monitoring

  • Having access to a birth pool

  • Eating and drinking in labour

If you are being told you can’t have access to one of more of the above, we need to chat bbz!
