5 ways to speed up your labour
Hey there preggo,
First things first… there is no “right” length of labour…. and there is no need to make it shorter!
Usually your body and your baby will work at the pace that’s right for you!
Here are some of our tips that can help your body relax and surrender to the waves of your labour:
Stay home for longer (or stay home PERIOD)
The hormones required for birth to unfold respond really well to privacy and felling unobserved. Both of these things are best served in your home environment.
Home births are evidently associated with shorter labour lengths
Stop Clock Watching
Clock watching didn’t help your school exams past faster and it doesn’t help you in labour either
Why do you want to know how long its been…. It won’t tell you how long it’ll be….
A common way of clock watching is contraction timing…so really consider if you NEED to be timing those surges.
Distract Yourself
There will come a time in labour when you can no longer ignore it. It will become all consuming…. Until this point, IGNORE IT UNTIL YOU CAN IGNORE NO MORE
Go for a walk, do some baking, watch some telly, go to the cinema, meet a pal for lunch, have a nap! All of these things will help the time pass
Stay off your back!
Lying flat on your back ain’t using gravity … meaning this could make things slower…. Remember U.F.O … Upright, Forward and Open
This doesn’t mean that you can’t rest though… just do so in a beneficial position… on your left side, with cushions between your knees to keep the pelvis balanced.
Stop Talking
Right… we are nor suggesting that you should become a mute for the whole time BUT, talking engages the neocortex. This can interfere with the hormonal production we need for labour to progress.
Pop just music on and get your headphones on…
