3 easy ways to avoid tearing in labour
Before we start we wanted to say that we understand why you might not love the idea of tearing in labour.
Having said that, some perineal trauma can be quite common during childbirth.
The NHS estimates that 9 out of 10 people will experience some perineal trauma during birth.
But…. there are some things that you may want to try to decrease your chances of having a tear.
Breathe!
By breathing effectively you are sending fresh oxygenated blood supply to your muscles and tissues, reducing adrenaline in your baby and surrendering to the waves of your labour with ease.
This ensures muscles and tissues are working effectively, free from emotional and physical barriers and ready to go with the flow of your labour.
Relax your jaw…
The jaw is the midline of the body, connected to the spine and all the way down to the hips.
A tense jaw means a tense body…with a tense perineum…
Simply by putting the tip of your tongue behind your top teeth and softening your lips, you can relax your whole body.
